passion for bashin!

waiting in line
if you know me, you know i love country music.
one of the country radio stations i listen to does a birthday party for their radio station every year in june.  it's called the birthday bash. this is where they invite a few country singers (ones that are more up and coming, and then one or two big headliners) to put on a concert for free.  it's an outdoor concert that is over the course of two days, saturday and sunday. you can go both days, and camp out there, or you can go just one day.

kip moore!
a lot of people will just lay on blankets in their swimsuits and just listen to the music. and they have mostly fair foods, but subway and tgi friday's as well, so you have a variety to choose from. they also limit the # of drinks people get, so there's nobody there that will get out of hand. (and there's security and stuff, that will get rid of people if they do get too rowdy)

this year, i had the privilege of going to the bash. it was really cool. i went with katelyn and a friend on sunday. we had perfect weather (it was hot at times), but it couldn't have been better for this type of thing. we saw gunnar and the grizzlies, kip moore, randy montana, josh kelley, ashton shepherd, gary allan, and josh turner.

josh turner, such an amazing guy
i got to meet kip moore, i got his signature along with a picture of him and a picture with him. ashton shepherd was really good. and josh turner, well, of course he was absolutely amazing. we all plan on going again next year depending on who will be singing next year, and hoping our schedules will work out.

it is a really fun time, where you are pretty much free to do anything (legal that is). it is one big redneck party. :)

day 09

day 09 - a picture of the person who has gotten you through the most

well, there is a lot of people who have helped me get through the milestones in my life, so it's hard to choose only one person.

but i'm choosing my mom. especially when i had my surgery, even though she didn't know what i was going through, she knew how to be there for me. she has an awesome sense of humor (family trait). i can't help but have a sense of humor as well.

sadly, i do admit that our characteristics are a lot alike, so she understands me (most of the time). although she laughs at me because i'm so emotional about animals, i can laugh right back when she cries at other, more ridiculous things.

i love you mom

i also want to thank the rest of my family (from grandpa's and grandma's, aunts and uncles, and cousins, all the way to my close friends) for helping me get through hard times in my life. so thanks to all y'all.

all in the serve

being a Christian, I know what it means to "serve"

there was a movie at my church library called The Second Chance, and it's all about how when you serve others, you are serving Jesus.

there is one city, but one side of this city is very poor and run-down, while the opposite end is just that. it's richer, and nicer-looking.

the minister from the run-down side had come to the nicer side to speak at that church and ask for help serving over there. but most of these people just gave money in the offering plate thinking they were "helping". when in reality, the run-down end just needed help keeping prostitutes and gangs off the street, and just showing a Christian attitude. and only giving money would not get the job done.

the minister from that side was getting sick of people giving their money thinking they had helped them, because he knew that they didn't want to come down to his side and help out.  so pretty much the movie is about serving others, not just giving.

two things can be taken from this movie:
1. if you are putting money in the offering plate every week, or giving money to other charities, you are helping. but make sure you also put yourself out there and help those charities as well. volunteer not only your $$, but your time as well.

2. if you are struggling with money, and can't give as much to church or charities as you usually do, don't feel like you have to "make that up". if you are giving up your time, that God is just as happy with you.  if you are serving others, that is just the same (and I think better) than just dropping money in the plate every week.

I really recommend this movie to you, it is really interesting and moving.  (and, michael w. smith stars in it, for those of you who like him). it is not too long either (i think it's about 90 min.) but it will be worth your time.

30 day challenge - day 08

day 08 - a picture that makes you laugh

well, this really doesn't need an explanation
